Chris’s Profile

Chris is a Shareholder and member of Maynard Cooper’s Litigation and Family Law practice groups.

Chris began his career over a decade ago representing some of the largest companies in North Alabama in business and commercial disputes in both state and federal courts.  His experience includes being a part of a legal team that represented the plaintiffs in a shareholder derivative action that resulted in a settlement of nearly $200 million for the plaintiffs, which is one of the largest settlements ever reported in the State of Alabama.

He has successfully tried cases to juries, judges and arbitrators.  He has also handled appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Alabama Supreme Court and the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals.

Over time, Chris began using his business litigation experience in complex divorce cases together with Bill Burgess, another Maynard Cooper shareholder, who is one of the preeminent family law attorneys in North Alabama.  Chris now regularly represents individuals going through divorces (both contested and uncontested), using the same litigation skills he learned while representing large corporations earlier in his career.  He prides himself on being detail-oriented and responsive to his clients, a necessity in the corporate litigation world.  He handles almost all matters related to family law for his clients, including divorce, property/asset division, alimony, marital (and pre-marital) agreements, paternity, child custody, child support, parental rights and visitation rights.  His goal in any case is to obtain the best possible result for his clients in an efficient manner, whether through settlement or trial.

His talents have earned him recognition in The Best Lawyers in America©, and he has been listed in Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” for numerous years.

Chris received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law and holds a B.S. from Auburn University.
